City crews will be conducting their annual fall hydrant flush to maintain the supply lines. The hydrants are flushed and left uncapped to allow the water to drain; once they are drained, they are capped, greased, and inspected. Hydrant flushing is necessary to remove sediment from pipes in order to maintain water quality and increase pipe longevity in the distribution system. Hydrant flushing is also done to test the hydrants to make sure adequate flow and pressure is available for fire protection and to identify any malfunctions of the hydrant and related valves.
