Sanitary Sewer Cleaning Starting Soon

The Utilities Department will conduct its annual sanitary sewer mainline cleaning starting June 30th. Crews will clean approximately 20 miles of sewer lines. Jetter trucks use a high-pressure hose to remove debris and buildup from the pipes. During this work, residents may experience noise, air bubbles in lower-level toilets, or occasional toilet splashing. To minimize any inconvenience, please keep the lids of lower-level toilets closed during this time.

If you have any questions or experience toilet splashing, please call
(763) 235-3165.

Find Your Curb Stop

A curb stop (or curb valve) controls water flow to your property and is usually located near the sidewalk or street edge. Property owners are responsible for its security and access.

Curb stops are the last line of defense to isolate your residence from an internal plumbing issue—like a burst pipe, a leaking water heater, or a broken fixture. These types of problems can lead to serious water damage if not addressed quickly. Knowing where your curb stop is and keeping it accessible can help you shut off the water fast in an emergency.

To find it, look for the curb stop box near the front of your property. The valve is about six feet underground and requires a special curb stop tool, available for checkout at City Hall or the West Wastewater Treatment Facility.

If you can’t locate or operate it, contact Otsego Utilities or City Hall to schedule a $75 service visit, or hire a local plumber.
