Who Can Vote?

You’re eligible to vote in Minnesota if you:

  • Are a U.S. citizen

  • Will be 18 or older on Election Day

  • Have lived in Minnesota for at least 20 days

  • Are properly registered


Registering on Election Day

You can register at your polling place on Election Day if you haven’t already registered or if:

  • You moved

  • Changed your name

  • Haven’t voted in the past 4 years

To register, bring proof of your name and address in the precinct. Here's how:


Option 1: Bring a Valid ID with Your Current Address

Choose one of these:

  • Minnesota driver’s license or learner’s permit (or receipt)

  • Minnesota state ID card (or receipt)

  • Tribal ID card with name, photo, address, and signature


Option 2: Bring a Photo ID + Proof of Address

If your ID has an old address, bring:

  1. A photo ID, such as:

    • Driver’s license or ID (any U.S. state)

    • U.S. passport

    • U.S. military ID

    • Tribal ID (with name, signature, and photo)

    • Minnesota college or high school ID

AND

  1. A document with your current name and address, such as:

    • Lease or rental agreement (valid through Election Day)

    • Student fee statement

    • A recent bill or statement (dated within 30 days) for:

      • Phone, internet, or TV

      • Utilities (electric, gas, water, sewer, garbage)

      • Bank or credit card

      • Rent or mortgage payment


Other Ways to Register on Election Day

  • Bring a registered voter from your precinct who can vouch for where you live

  • Use a “Notice of Late Registration” mailed to you if you registered close to Election Day
