Apparatus
Otsego Fire Department Welcomes New Fire Apparatus
The goal for our new fire apparatus was to have all major pieces of apparatus in Otsego by the completion of the new fire station in the summer of 2026. Fire apparatus in the United States has a very long wait time once ordered. Manufacturers vary, but for fire engines and ladder trucks the typical wait time for these trucks is 24-60 months once ordered.
Otsego received our first two trucks in 2025, and this included a water tanker truck to supply water in our areas without fire hydrants, a 4x4 pick-up truck that will serve as a future grass fire truck, a freightliner medium duty fire engine and a SUV for the future fire chief.
We have two additional trucks on order that will arrive in time for the new fire station to be complete. This will allow our new firefighters to train on our apparatus/equipment at our fire station with our fire department leaders.
The two trucks arriving this year include a heavy-duty rescue/fire engine and a ladder truck. The ladder truck is not only for response to tall buildings in our growing community but also for our large warehouse buildings that require the ability to have a far horizontal reaching master water stream. Ladder trucks are even an important piece of equipment for residential homes with far setbacks for City streets. Having a ladder truck in our community helps ensure maximum credits for our insurance ratings.
Below are example photos of pending trucks.
Heavy Duty Rescue Engine
The rescue engine is the cornerstone of Otsego Fire Department fleet, equipped with a 1500 GPM pump and a 1000-gallon water tank. This versatile apparatus is designed to handle fire suppression, vehicle extrications, and emergency medical calls. It carries advanced firefighting tools, rescue equipment, and medical supplies, ensuring readiness for diverse emergencies. Staffed by 3–4 firefighter EMTs, the rescue engine serves as the primary response vehicle for most incidents.

Medium Duty Engine
The medium-duty fire engine serves as a backup unit, providing additional support for crews during large-scale or simultaneous emergency calls.
Ladder Platform
The 110-foot ladder platform provides critical capabilities for high-angle rescues, large structure fires, and elevated operations. Equipped with a master stream nozzle for aerial water application and ample storage for tools and equipment, it is an essential asset for incidents requiring height and reach. The ladder platform enhances the department’s ability to protect multi-story buildings and industrial facilities in Otsego.

Tender/Tanker
The 2500-gallon water tender ensures a reliable water supply in areas without hydrant access. This apparatus is essential for rural firefighting operations, providing support to engines and other units during extended incidents. Its efficient water delivery system allows for quick refills and sustained firefighting capabilities.
Fire Chief SUV
This SUV is equipped to support incident management and coordination. These units provide a mobile workspace for command staff to oversee operations, communicate with responding units, and ensure efficient resource deployment. They are critical for maintaining organized and effective responses to emergencies of all sizes.
Brush Unit
The brush unit is a compact, agile vehicle designed to manage grass and brush fires. With off-road capabilities and specialized tools, it is tailored for small-scale outdoor fires and preventive patrols during high-risk conditions. Its maneuverability makes it an invaluable asset for incidents in Otsego's natural and undeveloped areas.
