History

Lily Pond, once known as “Bedford,” was part of Otsego Township in the heart of Minnesota’s Big Woods — a vast forest that once stretched from Minnesota to Wisconsin. In the 1850s, settlers from Canada, New England, and Europe cleared the land for farming and worked in the local brick and lumber industries. The area was also a seasonal hunting ground for Native Americans. Notable landmarks included the Lily Pond School, the Methodist Episcopal Church across the road, and the Baker Ferry that once crossed the Mississippi River.
